Acid Peptic Disorders(APD) include number of conditions whose pathophysiology is believed to be the result of damage from acid and pepsin activity in the gastric secretions. It is a result of acid acting on diminished gastric mucosa. Acid Peptic Disorder(APD) result from distinctive but overlapping pathogenic mechanisms that typically involve acid effects on diminished mucosal defense. It influences the quality of life and productivity of the afflicted patients and are common and important causes of morbidity and mortality.They are common entities present in daily clinical practice that, owing to their chronicity, represent a significant cost to healthcare.
Burning sensation in chest spreading to throat, along with a sour taste in mouth,chest pain, difficulty in swallowing(Dysphagia), dry cough, hoarseness or sore throat, regurgitation of food or sour liquid (acid reflux), sensation of a lump in a throat, anorexia, nausea or vomiting, hiccough are the common clinical manifestation of the disease.
The causes are sphincter abnormality, dietary and lifestyle like:- obesity, high BMI, smoking, caffeine, soft drink and alcohol consumption, High dietary for intake; Medications like:- NSAIDs, antibiotics, calcium channel blockers, Anticholinergics; Stress etc.
Some of the risk factors are Smoke, drinking alcohol, have untreated stress, eat spicy foods.
Avoid to remain empty stomach, avoidance of Alcohol, smoking, tea,coffee,and NSAIDs as soon as possible, cold milk should be taken several times, avoid spicy and fried foods are the preventive measures for acid peptic disorder.
Blood and stool tests, breath tests, and endoscopy and barium radiography are the various diagnostic criteria for acid peptic disorder.
In Ayurveda various therapies and medicines are prescribed to treat acid peptic disorder. Therapies that can be administered are vaman, virechan, asthapana, anuvansana basti etc. These therapies are administered according to the age, condition of the patient. The various ayurvedic formulations that can be administered are praval pishti, sutshekhar rasa, sankh bhasm, kapardika bhasma, gandhak vati, lasunadi vati, chitrakadi vati, agnitundi vati, lavan Bhaskar churna, hingwastak churna etc.
Diet alcohol, coffee, caffeinated soda, fatty foods, chocolate, and spicy foods are some of the foods to be avoided. Broccoli, cauliflower, and kale are packed with vitamins and antioxidants, Berries, apples, grapes, and pomegranates etc are the foods that can be taken.
Yoga therapies can be helpful suryanamaskar, hasta uttansana, ashwa sanchalasan, parvatasana etc are the yoga therapies that can be followed.
