Bleeding gums are a symptom of many oral diseases. Inflammation of tissues in and around gums causes bleeding.
Gum bleeding may be associated with other symptoms according to the disease condition:
Swollen and red gums
Brushing too hard
Using a brush with hard bristles
Gingivitis or inflammation of gums
Using Dentures that don’t fit well
Hormonal changes due to pregnancy
Any bleeding disorder
Vitamin C deficiency
Vitamin K deficiency
Using blood thinning medications
Leukemia or blood cancer
Poor oral hygiene
Use of medications like oral contraceptives, anti-depressants, and blood thinners.

In Ayurveda it istermed as Sheetada. Bleeding gums are becoming most common problem how a days due to bad oral health. And in Ayurveda it is believed that it is caused due to vitiation of pitta dosha and kapha doahas. When the liver is in an inactive state, the Pitta doshas which are evenly distributed throughout the body start moving towards one common direction, causing accumulation of excess pitta. The excessive pitta in the gums fails to hold the blood in the surrounding blood vessels ultimately causing bleeding gums. In certain cases, it can also aggravate the Kapha doshas causing bacterial infection in the teeth and gums.
