Migraine is a medical condition that involves severe, recurring headaches and other symptoms. Before the headache, there may be sensory changes that are known as an Aura. A migraine episode is different from a headache unrelated to migraine. An episode usually occurs in stages and can last for several days. It can affect a person’s daily life, including their ability to work or study. Some people may have more than 1 episode each week, while others have them occasionally.
The symptoms of migraine occur in stages: –
Stage 1: – Prodrome – one or two days before a migraine, the patient may notice subtle changes that warn of an upcoming episode of migraine, including: constipation, mood changes from depression to euphoria, food cravings, neck stiffness, increased thirst or urination, frequent yawning.
Stage 2:- Aura – Aura might occur before or during migraines. Auras are reversible symptoms of the nervous system. They are usually visual, but can also include other disturbances. Each symptom usually begins gradually, builds up over several minutes and lasts for 20-60 minutes. Like: – Visual phenomena such as seeing bright spots or flashes of lights, vision loss, pins and needles sensation in an arm or leg, weakness or numbness in the face or one side of the body, difficulty in speak9ng, hearing noises or music, uncontrollable jerking or other movements.
Stage 3:- Attack- during migraine attack following symptoms can occur like:- pain usually on one side of your head, but often on both sides, pain that throbs or pulses, sensitivity to light, sound, and sometimes smell and touch, nausea and vomiting.
Stage 4:- Post- drome – After migraine attack patient may feel drained, confused and washed out for up to a day.
Many times it is seen that migraine has been undiagnosed. So, whenever you feel like symptoms of migraines or headache at regular interval with great intensity which actually hampers your daily life. Then without a delay you must consult to a doctor.
There are various therapies in Ayurveda which can be administered to treat migraine like:- body detoxification like vaman, virechan basti ; nasya, shirodhara, snehana, swedana, rasayana therapu, yoga therapy, etc. Also various herbs are administered like godanti bhasma, mishri, vanslochan, choti pippali, chotti elaichi, dalchini, lasuna, jiraka, saindhavalavana, sunthi etc.
There are various preventive measures of which you should taken care of like watch what you eat and drink, don’t skip meals, avoid caffeine, be careful with exercise, have a proper sleep, manage your stress by meditation or counselling or various ayurvedic therapies, make a proper schedule and follow that schedule properly.
