The term slipped disc is a misnomer. Discs are rubbery pads between each vertebral joint that act as shock absorbers and facilitate easy movement of the spine. Structurally, each disc has an outer fibrous ring and an inner gel-like substance. When the gel-like substance shifts or herniates due to degeneration of the disc, then the condition is termed as slipped disc.
Lower backache that may radiate to the buttocks or legs.
Pain during movement of lower limbs.
Decreased range of movement of spine.
Degenerative changes due to ageing cause discs to become less elastic and dehydrated.
Any sudden or chronic trauma to spine like lifting heavy weights, incorrect posture, sitting for a prolonged period of time, etc.
Some people have genetically weak discs and are more prone to developing the condition.
chewing or smoking: These are some of the lesser-known causes. Chemicals released from smoking or tobacco fasten the degenerative process.
Jobs that demand sitting for a longer period of time or strenuous work.
Family history of slipped disc.
Exercise to strengthen the muscles that support the spine.
Keep a check on your weight.
Maintain right posture.
Our therapies aim to reduce the pain, discomfort, and stop further degeneration which in turn improves the quality of life.
Panchkarma therapies like Abhyanga, Swedan, Elakizhi, Podikizhi, Sarvangdhara, Basti, Kati Basti, and Greeva Basti are administered according to the progression of disease. These therapies have benefits like:
Strengthen the muscles supporting the spine.
Nourish the joints.
Stop the advancement of the condition.
