Anal Fissure is a tear, ulcer or cut in the lower part of anal canal with severe pain while defecation. Anal fissure is called as ‘Parikartika’ in Ayurveda. The earliest refrence of parikartika is available from Sushruta Samhita.
Fissure-in-Ano is very commonly encountered in current day to day practice. Though now a days, Parikartika (Anal Fissure) is considered a separate disease. But in the history, it was mentioned as a complication of some other diseases or some ayurvedic procedures like Basti or enema.

Any painfull condition with bleeding is not piles it can be fissure or any other disease of anal canal or rectum. In modern science the treatment of anal fissure is anal dilatation and surgery, and medicinal treatment have many side effects like headache.
