While the phase of menopause proceeds, a woman face many symptoms including vaginal dryness which is most irritable one.
Vaginal dryness can occur at any age. The estrogen produced in a woman’s body stimulates the vaginal tissues to keep the vagina moist by the mucous membranes present in the vagina.
This problem is majorly seen at the time of menopause from 45-55 years, at this time the ovaries produce less estrogen which leads to painful thinning and drying of vaginal tissue.
In ayurveda it is explained as vata gets unbalanced. This age is vata time of life, here dryness occurs, including dry skin and scalp dryness are very common.
Vaginal dryness can can be correlated with many symptoms. Vaginal dryness symptoms consists of itching, irritation, soreness, burning pain inside the vagina majorly at the vulva.
There are various panchkarma processes useful to combat this problem:
Abhyanga: It should be made a part of your everyday routine. Use oil according to your body type. If you have dominant vata, use sesame ir til oil. If your body is a pitta dominant then use coconut or nariyal oil and if your body is kapha dominant then you should use mustard or sarso oil.
Being hydrated is very important. Abhyang ensures your body remain externally hydrated but for your inner body drink at least 3-4 liters of water daily and eat sweet, juicy fruits in abundance which are full of fibers.
Vaginal douching: It is very useful process of panchkarma. A sterile cotton ball is made which is dipped in oil and then placed in vagina.
Swedana: Nadi swedan is applied to the genitals for effective results. It is the process by which the sweat or perspiration is produced in the body using various methods. Nadi sweda is done by applying steam coming out of a hollow tube to the body, specifically to the affected parts.
Basti: Basti is a process in which herbal enema is given in rectum using Vata pacifying herbs to reduce the vitiated doshas, which causes vaginal dryness. It is the best procedure to treat this problem.
There are various medicine also which can be prescribed by doctors according to your condition. It is best to take panchkarma therapy for long term benefits.
