Acidity or Acid reflux is characterized by sour eructation or burning sensation in the chest or throat due to excessive acid secretion by the stomach which moves up the esophagus or food pipe. If the symptoms persists for more than twice a week, then it is called GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease).

In Ayurveda, Acidity is termed as Amlapitta. It is said to be caused due to the excessive amount of pitta.

  5. Keep your head elevated while sleeping by using pillows

And it has been caused due to vitiation of pitta dosha because of stress, improper diet, not taking food on time, sleep deficit, lack of exercise, and overindulgence in fatty and oily foods which ultimately leads to acidity or amlapitta and causes various symptoms in the body as mentioned earlier. According to Ayurveda the causes of Amlapitta is the weakening of agni may also result in the production of toxins known as Ama. It is said that Ama causes an imbalance in Pitta dosha leading to hyperacidity. Vata Dosha imbalance also has a role to play in digestive problems.
